Brief BIO-real or derby persona: My name is Rusty Damage, that suits me because of my red hair and corrosive personality! In my real life I am married to my high school sweetheart. January we celebrate our 17th anniversary. Mr. Damage attends each bout and volunteers in any capacity he can. we have 3 wonderful children, who, when most kids are embarrassed by what there parents do, my kids tell everyone, 'My Mom is a Jet City Rollergirl!' I love learning the sport of Derby, watching it, playing it. I look forward to increasing my skills and using them against others!! ;) I am also a registered Girl Scout and have been since the age of 5. I have a troop of 8 girls that I have had for 6 years, we are currently creating a Roller Derby badge for Junior age Girl Scout every where to earn! I love my role on skates as well as off!

Hobbies: Camping, Knitting, Singing.

JCRG: How long have you been skating?
RD: Since Easter of 2007

JCRG: What committee do you belong to, and what is your function
RD: I belong to the Community Cares Committee and are currently the lead for that comittee. I make contact with local charities that we can feature for our bouts, so our league if giving back to our community.

JCRG: Why did you join derby?
RD: I can remember seeing Kansas City Bomber as a kid, who doesn't want to skate fast and knock people down! As I got older, I had heard of Derby starting in our area but I thought, there is no way they are going to take someone my size! So I didn't think much more about it, then, one evening while I was skating with my Girl Scout Troop at the Skate Deck, Ivana Hercha handed my husband a card and said 'your wife seems to love skating, if she is interested in derby, have her contact the number on the card!' It was very hard for me to make that call because I had so many self doubts. My inspiration was my brother, the original 'Rusty'. Having passed away a little more than a year before joining derby, I just remembered how, he lived his life to the fullest, he is the bravest person I have ever known. Also my husband was so supportive and gave that push I needed to get over my issues, quit hiding from the world and watching it pass by! So I summoned the courage and made the call! My first practice was Easter Sunday! Suzi 9mm helped me that practice, gave me a derby sister and then here I am now! I have alot more to learn, self doubts to conquer still, but I know I am good and getting better, with over 40 women as examples to learn from, I will be unstoppable some day!

JCRG: What is your favorite aspect of derby?
RD: I am drawn to things in life that empower girls, women. It is hard to be a girl and it is hard to be a women in our society today. My favorite aspect of derby is knowing that 40 plus women can share ideas, work together to make amazing things happen. We are all volunteers, as are all leagues, and all different personalities but when you put us all together, the strength and creativity of these women, from every walk of life, has kept the sport of derby alive for over 30 years... Women are unstoppable in anything and derby is a positive example of what hard work and commitment can do. I encourage everyone to try derby, it brings out the warrior that is in all of us!

JCRG: Do you have a favorite derby player outside of Jet City?
RD: I am a derby fan, I have many players that I admire for different reasons. Just off the top of my head, Betty Ford Galaxy is not only an amazing all around player of derby, a strong women who has over come many obstacles but she is changing the lives of our female youth by bringing them Jr. derby and teaching all that she knows and loves of this sport! Betty is helping create strong girls who will be even stronger women! She certainly is a huge role model for me!
