Edith Mydust

Team: Pink Pistols

Position:  Blocker or Jammer. Whatever we need.

Favorite Drink:  Spicy Hot V-8 or a Gin and Tonic

Hobbies:   DERBY! What else?  I'm pretty family oriented. Hobbies for me are an extension of husband and kids activities. Usually it's sports or working with the kids schools through PTA.

JCRG: How did you come up with your derby name and what does it mean to you?
EM: My son actually came up with the name. During booty camp I was (and will be again after this ankle heals) pretty fast. It's also a nod to my grandmother.

JCRG: How long have you been skating?
EM: Seven or eight months.  I started at the end of March of '09.

JCRG: What committee do you belong to, and what is your function?
EM: External Affairs, working on Sponsorship and Advertising

JCRG: Why did you join derby?
EM: To prove to myself I still had some fire in me.  I'd gotten pretty comfortable as a wife and mom, going to work watching the kids, hanging around the house.  Once I gave derby a try, I was instantly  reminded how much I loved playing sports.  I love going fast, being physical, weaving in and out of people and feeling so alive and strong.

JCRG: What is your favorite aspect of derby?
EM: It's exhilarating and very motivating.  Nothing gets you going like the roar of the crowd. Even if it's just a practice or a scrimmage, you can't help but work a little harder and push yourself a tiny bit more when you've got people cheering you on.  That positive energy transfers over into other aspects of your life too.  I also really like that it's such a team sport. Some sports are all about the individual and your own single talent.  But with derby, the best players and teams are the ones that know how to use each other and work together.  It's not a race and it's not just about knocking people down.

JCRG: Any other information we should know about you?
EM: I graduated from the UW with a bachelors in Political Science. I am happily married to Mike, my high school sweetheart, going on 17 years and we have two fabulous kids.  I work together with my husband at our business, McNamara Signs.  When I was a kid, I wanted to be everything form a a belly dancer to a race car driver .  I think being involved with derby let's you be a little of everything.  It's super fun!
